ABOUT
Welcome to my site!
My name is Dane DiMuzio and I’m a senior at Hampton Roads Academy in Newport News, Virginia. I’m an athlete who tries to be healthy, but doesn’t always succeed. What started off as a senior project pertaining to health and web design, led me on a quest to help myself and others incorporate many healthy habits into our lives, by focusing on a positive approach.
There is a lot of great advice on websites regarding disease prevention, specifically related to heart health. However, many focus on the many things that we are doing wrong and what we need to cut out in our lives. If you are like me, my intention is to live healthy and avoid the unhealthy, but I often make an unsustainable plan—start off strong, often fall short, due to trying to be perfect. I’ve teaching myself that just because temptation takes over in the morning and I may eat a couple of brownies (shhh!) for breakfast, that I can still throw in some extra veggies throughout the day. I’ve also had to learn that just because I spent most of the weekend sitting at a desk studying or plopped on the sofa playing video games, that I can push myself to do a few pull-ups and sit-ups before going to bed. It’s not perfect, but sometimes adding healthy foods on top of the unhealthy and adding a little movement after spending the day in couch potato mode, can give you unconscious strength to decrease future unhealthy decisions.
My motivation for choosing this topic stems from the prevalent heart disease that runs in my family. While recently sitting nervously in the waiting room during my maternal grandmother’s third heart surgery, I realized that I wanted to incorporate heart disease prevention in some aspect of my future. Not only does heart disease run in my mother’s side of the family, but my paternal grandfather passed away due to a sudden heart attack when my dad was a young boy. On top of this, both of my other grandparents suffered from heart disease and even I experience heart and lung problems due to my premature birth.
Because of my family history, I often research approaches to a healthy lifestyle, such as diet and fitness routines. It was during this research that I discovered how many individuals and families are uneducated on preventative measures pertaining to heart disease. A positive approach can lead to a healthier heart.
I welcome you to contact me with any information you have to help me educate myself and others on a journey in positive health!
